The D.A.V. College of
Education stands a living monument to the memory of the
great martyr Ch. Balbir Singh Ji (Ex. M.P.), who laid
down his life for the unity and integrity of the
nation. The college owes its every existence to the
educational vision of late Chaudhary Sahib. With his
mature vision, missionary zeal and single minded
devotion to the cause of education, he made this college
the nucleus of educational development of this area. It
is due to his ceaseless and untiring efforts all
through, that this college has grown to such an enviable
position and has made its presence felt on state and
even on the national educational scene. His sacrifice is
bound to inspire the coming generations to heights of
educational and human excellence.
The D.A.V. College of
Education, Hoshiarpur, formerly known as D.A.V. Training
College, came into existence in August, 1966 due to the most
untiring efforts of Late Ch. Balbir Singh Ji (Ex. M.P.),
revered father of our beloved leader Sh. Kamal Chaudhry,
President, D.A.V. College Managing Committee,
Hoshiarpur, who has served 4 terms as M.P. (Lok Sabha).
This College is a living monument of the socialistic
philosophy of Ch. Balbir Singh Ji who lived and
ultimately laid down his life for the masses.
The D.A.V. College
Managing Committee, Hoshiarpur has done a great service
to the people by opening this college. The College
initially had two units of fifty students each for B.Ed.
course. In the very first session of B.Ed. Course in the
college, the admission overflowed the allotted number of
100 seats of two units. The number of admission seekers
was overwhelming and Ch. Sahib resorted to hunger
strike for getting more seats so that more and more
people could be developed along the Anglo Vedic and Arya
Samajist thought. Havan Yajna and intellectual
discourses by renowned Arya Samajist thus form an
integral part of co curricular activities in this
College. The college has made rapid progress from day
one. The third unit was permanently given to the college
in 1969 and the 4th unit was added in 1970. Now two more
units have been sanctioned by the Panjab University,
Chandigarh. Thus there are six units of 50 students each
for the B.Ed. class. The college has also been
affiliated to P.U. for M.Ed. course since 1971 with a
sanctioned intake of 25 students. There has always been
a great rush for admission to B.Ed. and M.Ed. Courses
because of the great reputation enjoyed by this college.
With 300 students of B.Ed. class and sanctioned strength of
25 students for M.Ed. class, the college is strength wise
the biggest college of education in the state. Our
college also has been accredited by National Council of
Teachers Education. Several of M.Ed. and B.Ed. students
have been placed in the University Merit List from time
to time. The examination results of the college have
always been above the University pass percentage and
this college again is a force to recon with so far as
sports and co-curricular activities are concerned.
Under the
dynamic leadership of Sh. Davinder Mohan Sharma Advocate and
his guidance, the college carries
out in letter and spirit the rules and regulations laid
down by different regulatory bodies, i.e.,
- The National Council of Teachers Education.
- The University Grants Commission.
- The Director of Public Instructions (Colleges) Pb.,
Chandigarh and of-course
- Panjab University, Chandigarh.
In pursuance of these rules & regulations and
instructions, the College has a sanctioned strength of
19 Permanent Lecturers and 12 Adhoc Lecturers. This
includes the Principal, Librarian and Lect.-in-Physical
Education.
The College got permanent affiliation from Panjab
University, Chandigarh in August, 1966. The recognition
by N.C.T.E. was granted for M.Ed. course on 15.09.2002
vide Letter No. MB-02-M.Ed./2000/6049 for 25 seats. For
B.Ed. course the N.C.T.E. accreditation was granted vide
